Today, I absolutely loved my classes, found a loft in Chelsea, and got in touch with Versace about summer internships. I’d say the first day of the semester was a success. :)

is finished. Thank god.
My Fall semester ended on December 15th, and I began my internship at Elle just a few days later. I’ve also agreed to stay at Nicole Miller until the end of January, when classes start again. On top of the two internships, I’ve also been working extra holiday hours Clinique. It may seem exhausting, working 7 days a week, over 80 hours/week combined, but I’ve actually been pretty… relaxed?
I don’t even know how that’s possible. But, it probably has something to do with the fact that I’ve actually taken time out for social interaction, something which I don’t typically do. Of course, it’s been a lot easier since everyone has pretty much come to me, rather than vice versa.
Overall, I’m having a good winter break. Three more weeks until I’m back in school… Can’t decide whether or not that’s a good thing.
Hi! I don’t know too much about opportunities outside of NYC, mainly because its the only place I’ve ever really worked. I’ve done four internships so far - one virtual/blogging [JoonBug.com], one in PR/at a designer [Nicole Miller], and two in the fashion department of major publications [Life & Style and Elle].
A great way to make a name for yourself in fashion is to start a blog, and more importantly, to actually keep up with it. You can put this on your resume, because it shows great organization skills! My first internship was managing the fashion blog on JoonBug.com. This is a great way to get your name out there, and to gain professional connections and experience. I definitely suggest that you check out freefashioninternships.com. Most of their opportunities are in NYC and LA, but they have a lot of virtual internships that you can apply for! These are great because you can choose your own hours.
From there, you can apply to fashion houses, or magazines, or PR agencies, depending on which direction you choose to pursue. Check out Vivienne Westwood, Burberry London, and Alexander McQueen. As far as magazines go, you can apply to the British versions of all the major publications — check out anything from Hearst and Conde Nast, as they have organized internship programs.
As far as my personal recommendations, I’m totally biased towards anything journalism related. I absolutely LOVED blogging for JoonBug, and I felt completely at peace during my time at Life & Style and now at Elle. On the other hand, I wasn’t interested in Public Relations whatsoever, but I’m thrilled to have had the opportunity to learn about that part of the industry, especially at such an incredible company.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask! GOOD LUCK!
GOAL: To intern at either Prada, Miu Miu, or Bergdorf Goldman’s in 2012.
Holding my first ever contest on my blogspot! In honor of my new internship at Elle magazine, I’m giving away a 1-year subscription to the magazine.

This week, the Elle offices are closed, and my boss at Nicole Miller told me the week would be incredibly slow so I don’t have to come in. I’ve literally just been sitting on my couch doing absolutely nothing this entire week, and let me just tell you…. It feel incredible.

Pre-New York. Pre-FIT. Pre-Brunette.
Today is our third anniversary. Time flies.
